I May Be A Bastard, But I'm Not A Fucking Bastard.

QT BLOGATHON: FROM DUSK TILL DAWN

...is a quote that pretty accurate describes my tucked-tail return to the blogosphere. I know what you're thinking: IT'S ALIIIIVE! It turns out as soon as you start making money, the important things in life go down the crapper. Like paying tribute to one of the greatest directors of our time--the one and only, Quentin Tarantino. Thanks to recently leaving the world of unemployment, I've been a terrible lesbian mother to this blog. And, of course, there's the QT Blogathon to think about. This month was dedicated to one of my favorite late-nights-with-lots-of-friends-and-lots-of-popcorn movies, From Dusk Till Dawn (1996). Since I've already written up a review of From Dusk Till Dawn, I was going to tackle Four Rooms (1995) this month instead. I failed. But I still plan on getting on Four Rooms in the future. In the meanwhile, here's some love to From Dusk Till Dawn:

1. Mr. Darko of The Movie Log waxes poetic about the campiness that is From Dusk Till Dawn. And includes a badass poster.

2. The Smoking Pen has an old little Dusk Till Dawn bit wisdom: "fight now, cry later."

Definitely check out my man Mr. Darko. In other news, this month is Jackie Brown (1997). I haven't seen this one in quite a while, so I'm stoked. Especially for Samuel L. Jackson's hair. Shit's about to get REAL. If you have any Jackie Brown posts/videos/luggage bags, send them my way at mhufstader (at) gm.slc.edu (note the email change, I'm finally switching out from earthlink).

  2. I might watch Jackie Brown with a nice side of Coffy, that would be an interesting mix.

As for "waxes poetic about the campiness", I have to immortalize that somewhere on my blog.

Also I've refrained from all but the first Django Unchained trailer. Is this the way to go, or are they not giving much away?

    1. Nice! And I'm glad you appreciated the quote about yourself!

I would answer that, except I'm more or less in the same boat as you are. I've been semi-avoiding, semi-peaking-through-my-fingers everything about Django.

  3. Glad to see you're still at it! I hear you though, gotta pay the bills. Both excellent pieces on a seriously cool movie. I appreciate it even more with the theory in mind that this a film to be watched by people in the Tarantinoverse. Let's hope there's more collaboration to come from Rodriguez and Tarantino.

    1. Bill schmills. But Rodriguez and Tarantino are dynamite together. That's all there is to it. They just need to get married and make beautiful brainchildren together.

  4. M. Hufstader, Tarentino writes some dynamite dialogue. Money gets in the way of so many awesome pursuits.

  6. From Dusk til Dawn is definitely a fave of mine. Who doesn't love Salma and the snake? I can't wait to see what you think of Jackie Brown. "AK-47. The very best there is. When you absolutely, positively got to kill every motherfucker in the room, accept no substitutes."

How have you been? I've been boiling in my own sweat up here in Chitown. And did you see the trailer for Django? Killer!

    1. Agreeed! Salma and the snake is the shit. End of story. I saw Jackie Brown, but it's been a while. And that quote is one of my favorites! Samuel L. Jackson just...that movie. It blows my mind.

I've been good! Hotlanta is hot. But I've got a job in publishing which is starting to treat me well. We can collect sweat together! And the trailer for Django....egwejpejpwa. My heart. All over the floor.

  7. Great review M. The film did a crazy 180 in the middle, which I actually liked because that's when the unpredictable flavor of this story kicked in and I couldn't get enough of it. Also, great to see Clooney play somewhat of a bad guy for that short amount of time.

    1. Thanks! I did love the crazy 180. It's a clear definition between Tarantino and Rodriguez. And, in my opinion, it's got to be one of Clooney's best roles ever.
